Small town Northwest Texas, 1930s. A lake appears out of nowhere overnight. No rain fell during the night, there was no leak from any pipes, and the lake was far too big to have been made by human hands over the course of one night. No one witnessed anything- those most likely to have seen anything claimed to be just as surprised as everyone else. The night patrol officer, who had taken the town drunk to sleep it off safely in a cell at the jail house, drifted off for a few hours, as he often did. Not a lot of crime happened around here, not since Bonnie & Clyde stopped by a couple years back. Aside from a few odd noises ("just the coyotes," the older folks remarked, glancing at one another and nodding, gaining comfort from company), there were no reports of any strange goings-on.
